A Project from Turkey: Alanya Municipality Banana Fiber Project

Alanya Municipality took an important step with the project it started in 2015. The project contributed to the local economy and was a big step taken in terms of sustainability.

The project, which was started in 2015 with the slogan “From Banana to Art, From Dream to Design”, aimed to register Alanya’s local cultural values.

Within the scope of the project, daily shoes and slippers were produced with the brand “Muz Pabucu”, and clothes and accessories were designed with banana fiber fabrics. Alanya Municipality both supported the local economy and promoted Alanya with these products.

The project continued to grow rapidly, and housewives started to produce souvenirs in the workshops established by the municipality and fabrics were woven from banana fiber. 3 dresses produced from these fabrics were included in the collection of famous fashion designer Vural Gokcayli and were introduced in the fashion show.

Alanya Municipality participated in ITB Berlin International Tourism Exchange Fair to introduce the project worldwide and exhibited products made from banana fiber. In addition, cooperation was made with universities and companies to use banana fiber at an industrial level and a factory was established to ensure that waste from banana harvests can be used as fertilizer and feed.

It comes from nature and goes to nature, it dissolves quickly in nature thanks to its completely biodegradable structure and does not leave any chemical residue, thus not polluting the environment.
